I'm really keen to have a great season with schools this year. My aim is to engage with many primary and secondary schools to showcase how great gardening is - its benefits are huge!
Please contact me to discuss options. I can visit your school during the day or for an after school club. I've an enhanced DBS, full public liability insurance and oodles of enthusiasm!
Formerly I worked at Riverford Organic Vegetables in sunny Devon and delivered farm visits for all key stages, showcasing the farm whilst encompassing relevant areas of the National Curriculum. All visits were fun and informative - teachers learning lots too! After 8 years I left to move to Bristol and worked for The Community Farm near Chew Magna as their Community Engagement Officer. Great views and lots of vegetables helped tell the tale to the many schools, businesses and visitors to the farm. Since then I've been freelance, working with Parson Street Primary in Bedminster, running a community garden in Plymouth at City College Plymouth, working for Volunteering Matters delivering gardening sessions and working with Chefs Matt Williamson and Glyn Owen.
April to July is a busy time and the best time of year to undertake gardening and plant-out. You really want to use varieties that can be harvested before the summer, and what's left can manage themselves. Sounds easy but knowing your soil and knowing the right planting dates is crucial.
